It is of great importance for society that buildings are stable and able to withstand weather, wind and fire to an extent so that both human lives and valuables are ensured whenever possible.

In Denmark this security is achieved respectively in terms of the building regulations for small houses and the building regulations for commercial and multi-storey buildings. Both building regulations have traditionally referred to the Danish construction standards when it comes to detailed technical rules on the project design and safety.

Denmark has chosen to implement the shift from national design standards to Eurocodes in 2009.

An important date
From the 1st of January 2009 the Danish building regulation (BR10) only refers to Eurocodes and their National Annexes.
