National annexes to the Eurocodes

A Eurocode can only be used in conjunction with a National Annex prepared by the country in which the building will be built.

The National Annexes have originated because different countries have different requirements for buildings and building security due to political, climatic, historical or other reasons.

To accommodate these national differences, the Eurocodes include the possibility for each country to choose between different methods and values in certain areas. These choices are made once and for all at a national
level.

Eurocodes and product standards

Eurocodes provide common methods of construction in the EU. Therefore Eurocodes are also important for a number of European product standards, which refer to the calculation methods set out in Eurocodes.
