Annex ZA

Annex ZA is an informative annex in the harmonized standards that specifies the requirements for declaring the performance of construction products.

AdCos

 Administrative Cooperation Groups/Market Surveillance Cooperation Groups for the CPR. The members of AdCo groups are appointed by the Member States and represent the national authorities responsible for market surveillance in a specific sector.

AVCP

 System of Assessment and Verification of Constancy of Performance. It uses five different systems denoted as 1+, 1, 2+, 3, and 4.

Authorized Representative

Any legal or natural person established in the EU who has been given written authorization by a manufacturer to act on their behalf in relation to specific tasks.

Construction Product

 In the context of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), your product or system is considered a construction product when it is manufactured and placed on the market with the intention of being permanently incorporated into a construction or its parts, and when the performance of the construction product affects the performance of the construction with regard to its essential characteristics

CE

 CE stands for Conformité Européenne/European Conformity. The CE marking represents compliance with applicable EU directives or regulations, and it includes a summary of the information in the Declaration of Performance (DoP).

CEN

 European Committee for Standardization/Comité Européen de Normalisation. It is responsible for developing and publishing European standards.

CENELEC

 European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization/Comité Européen de Normalization. It is responsible for developing and publishing European standards for electrical and electronic products.

CPR

 Construction Products Regulation (EU no. 305/2011). The CPR can be found at www.eur-lex.europa.eu.

Delegated Acts

 Delegated Acts are used to supplement or amend certain non-essential provisions in a legislative act.

Directive

 A directive, with respect to its intended objective, is binding on each Member State to which it is addressed but leaves the national authorities the choice of form and methods for implementation. 

Distributor

 Any natural or legal person in the supply chain who makes a construction product available on the market. This includes all retailers, wholesalers, and similar entities that buy and sell construction products within the EU/EEA. 

DoP

 Declaration of Performance. The DoP is the basis for the CE marking. It contains all the information about the manufacturer, the construction product, and its performance, while the CE marking itself provides a summary.

DS

 Dansk Standard (Danish Standard). DS implements European standards and, in some cases, translates European standards into Danish. The Danish translation is referred to as DS/EN.

EOTA

 European Organisation for Technical Assessment. It provides technical assessments and issues European Technical Assessments (ETAs) for products or construction systems not covered by harmonized standards.

ETA

 European Technical Assessment. ETAs are voluntary and can be issued for specific products or construction systems from a specific manufacturer when they are not covered by a harmonized standard. The ETA serves as the basis for the manufacturer to affix the CE marking and is issued based on an EAD.

EEA

 European Economic Area. The EEA agreement currently includes Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein, allowing the three countries to be part of the EU's internal market.

EU

 The European Union is an economic and political union comprising 27 member states, all located in Europe, with a total population of around 446 million inhabitants.

Manufacturer

 Any natural or legal person who manufactures a construction product or has a construction product designed or manufactured and markets it under their name or brand.

Regulation

 A regulation is an EU legislative act, similar to EU law. Unlike a directive, a regulation is directly applicable in the member states, meaning it is binding without the need for

FPC

 Factory Production Control. In order to affix the CE marking on a construction product, the manufacturer must have a Factory Production Control (FPC) system. The FPC system must be certified by a Notified Body (NB) under the AVCP system 1+, 1, and 2+.

GNB

 Group of Notified Bodies. The Group of Notified Bodies (GNB) is a coordinating forum for notified bodies involved in the certification process.

hEN / EN

 Harmonised European standard. In the reference to a standard, "EN" is indicated before the standard number and publication date. "DS/EN" refers to the Danish translation of the standard by Dansk Standard.

Importor

 Any natural or legal person established in the Union who places a construction product from a third country on the EU market

ITT

 Initial Type Testing. ITT refers to the initial testing conducted on a product to assess its conformity.

ITC

 Initial Type Calculation. ITC refers to the initial calculation performed for evaluating a product's conformity.

MSA

 Market Surveillance Activities. MSA encompasses activities related to the surveillance and monitoring of the market to ensure compliance with regulations.

NB

 Notified Body. Notified Bodies in the EU can be found in the NANDO database. A Notified Body is an organization designated by an EU member state to assess the conformity of products

NANDO

 New Approach Notified and Designated Organisations Information System. NANDO is the name of the European Commission's website/information system where notified bodies (NB) can be searched for.

NPD

 No Performance Determined. NPD is indicated in declarations of performance and CE markings when no performance has been determined.

OJ / OJEU

 The Official Journal of the European Union. Harmonised standards become effective when they are announced in the Official Journal of the European Union.

PCP

 Product Contact Points for construction. PCP refers to designated points of contact for construction products.

REACH

 The EU Chemicals Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (EU Regulation No. 1907/2006).

SCC

 Standing Committee for Construction. SCC is the committee responsible for construction-related matters.

STD

 Specific Technical Documentation. STD refers to specific technical documentation required for demonstrating compliance.

TAB

 Technical Assessment Body. TABs issue European Technical Assessments (ETAs) for specific products. ETA-Danmark is a member of EOTA and serves as a technical assessment body in Denmark.
